Day four round up: Tuesday 1st August
So today has been a very, very, very busy day! We left camp after a pain au chocolat breakfast (Akela had been up since 5 baking all 40 of them from fresh).
We left camp at 9:15 and drove to the York Air Museum which Bagheera “the most exciting museum in the world”, for some reason she disappeared for the whole two hours and we found her with a cake and can of Pepsi talking planes with one of the volunteers! The Cubs enjoyed learning about the evolution of flight and how the planes work.
After we drove to York and got the park and ride in the city centre (with 20 kids and 10 adults this was a hard task). After arriving in York we visited Jorvik a Viking centre giving the history of the the Viking invasion in York and how the city was transformed by the Scandinavians. The Cubs found this very interesting, with many finding the smell of the place the best thing about it (it smelt like a mixture of wet dog, BO and Akela’s socks).
After we walked up the shambles and visited the shops (Akela managed to buy us all expensive sausages to treat the leaders). We travelled up to the York Chocolate Story, and tried the delights of chocolate, and even got a chance to make our own!! Which involved making chocolate lollipops with lots of chocolate toppings, which we obviously had to taste test…. a couple of times. Then it was time to head home via McDonalds for happy meals and Big Macs, which the Cubs loved!
11 hours later, 100 miles on the road we and a Dereck we arrived back at camp!! The Cubs completed their post cards home and at the minute we are attempting to wrangle them in to bed. They are having a fantastic time and can’t wait for more fun tomorrow!!
